One of the Lord-Lieutenant’s important roles is to present messages of congratulations from His Majesty The King to those celebrating their 100th birthdays or special Wedding Anniversaries (60th, 65th, 70th & 75th).

In the first instance, a member of the family should notify Aberdeenshire Council of the impending birthday or anniversary. In the case of a 100th birthday, the Department of Work and Pensions sends a representative to visit the celebrant to seek confirmation of their date of birth. This information is then forwarded to Buckingham Palace.

For couples celebrating their 60th, 65th, 70th and 75th Anniversaries, a relative should contact the Clerk to the Lieutenancy or the Anniversaries Office at Buckingham Palace. Arrangements will then be made for an Anniversary card to be sent from The King. There is more information relating to 100th Birthday and Wedding Anniversary presentations on the Royal Family’s website including links to printable and online application forms from the Anniversaries Office.

In all cases, if the family so wish, the Lord-Lieutenant or one of his Deputies, on behalf of The King, will be delighted to visit the celebrant or couple on the day.
