Inviting members of the Royal Family to Aberdeenshire

Each year The King and other members of the Royal Family attend nearly 3000 visits throughout the United Kingdom.

Official functions often feature prominently in such visits, including opening new buildings, meeting local dignitaries and visiting businesses, schools, hospitals and other public buildings as well as community schemes and military units. As patrons of over 3000 charities, members of the Royal Family also visit a large number of charity organisations and projects each year.

Invitations to members of the Royal Family are welcomed, although not all can be fulfilled owing to the large numbers received. Each invitation is given careful consideration, and in some cases another member of the Royal Family will be able to attend instead. Visit requests should be sent to the Lord-Lieutenant at the address below – he is responsible for advising on invitations and for co-ordinating the programme of any Royal visitor.

Each Royal Household has its own schedule of diary planning meetings into which the Lord-Lieutenant will try to slot suitable visit proposals; to that end, the sooner you can submit a request the better as the next meeting might be considering a period up to nine months away. Suggestions for visits in in the longer term are also welcomed as a marker can be put in the Lord Lieutenant’s diary for periods up to 10 years in advance.

Each request should describe the organisation to be visited, the reason for the visit (anniversary, opening, special event etc), whether there is a particular date, or even bracket of dates, that would be most appropriate and whether a specific member of the Royal Family would be particularly appropriate or desired (and why).

All visit requests or ideas for future invitations in Aberdeenshire should be directed to the Lord-Lieutenant.
